However, even these conventional medicines are not all entirely synthetic. About 25 percent of all prescription drugs in the US contain an active ingredient or ingredients that come from plants. Furthermore, in around the world, many individuals still use herbs for medical care. Indeed, there are herbal remedies for many of the ailments and in many cases there are less side effects than those from synthetic drugs. 

Here are some of the forms in which herbal medicine can come:

- Tinctures: A tincture is a solution in which the herb is soaked in grain alcohol for a few hours to a few days.

- Extracts: An extract is formed by using vacuum distillation or other filtration techniques to leave behind a fluid with a higher concentration of the active ingredient.

- Teas: A tea is made by soaking herbs in boiling water and then straining off the loose herbs.

- Infusions: An infusion is similar to a tea, but is usually darker and stronger since the herbs are soaked for a longer period of time.

- Pellets: Pallets are sugar based granules.
